Tiburon

So it's been an interesting journey with the Tiburon to say the least. I've only owned it for a little over a year and already my ideas of what to do with it have changed a million and a half times. First I wanted to make it fast then realized that'd take a lot more money than I felt I wanted to spend, then I got it to a place where I liked it for a while, but of course the itch came back and I needed to do something else to it. A little tinkering here and there helped push back the urge for something big, but still I didn't feel like the car was right. Then came the urge to try and sell it and get a BMW, an urge that I actually still feel but is completely unrealistic. I grew rather complacent with it and my lack of an ability to do something big or really nice to it so it stayed the way it was for a while. Then I found Stanceworks and fell in love with really really low cars. So I decided well that's it, new wheels and suspension for the Tib and she'll be complete. Well, those parts aren't cheap. Coilovers are going to run about 700 on the cheap side to 1800 for a good set, and wheels and tires will probably be close to 2 grand. Thing is, the way I figure, I'm stuck with this car for a while, so I have a lot of time to save. I've tinkered with stuff for the last time I believe and gotten a pretty solid look for the car which only needs the wheels and coilovers to complete it. With that said, I reveal to you the wheels and coilovers I believe I'm gonna rock.

Automotive Enthusiast Films

Ok, so I want to show people that there is a world of "car videos" out there that is above shots of the same JDM angles, shaky one handed driving while holding the camera, and setting the camera on the ground to record a drive by.

These are videos with real production value done by people who are lovers of all things automobilia, in addition to their regular routine.

Hrmmmmmm

Well, I haven't done shit with this. I was hoping it wouldn't come to this, but it has. Need to get in the habit of trying to write here. With that said the next post is going to be a collection of automotive enthusiast films.

Changes for Others

Why is it that we are so ready to change ourselves for other people, but not necessarily ourselves? Things that have been broken New Years resolutions year after year are readily attacked if we perceive someone else will approve of it and make them more willing to like us. I guess if it's something we had originally wanted to do and this person was just the final motivator then it's a good thing, however what about those changes you make based upon your interpretation of the others opinion? In that case it is often said that you should only ever change yourself if you want to, not for someone else. What about people who believe that it's impossible for other people to change? I've never personally believed in that myself, but some do. Can they themselves change to obtain the approval of a peer? It could even be slight, but it's a change, maybe just dropping a bad habit, or changing up a step in their routine.

Anyhow, I guess like most stuff I write, I'm not going anywhere with this however it's interesting to think about. It's late, I'm gonna go to bed.

5 things you should know about action movies.

So what kind of blog would this be without a list?  If you’re a clever person, and I’d like to believe my readers are, then these are things you may have already picked up on, however, I like being obvious, so here we go.

Bad guys are terrible marksmen.  It’s no secret that if you’re a bad guy in a movie, your ability to hit what you are shooting at is as likely as your ability to actually collect 35.3 million dollars from the dying prince of Nairobi.  This unfortunate quality is only further enhanced if you are shooting at the star hero of the movie, in which case, we’ll just refer to you as Michel J. Fox…

The most unassuming, ordinary, boring person, is capable of becoming Superman.  And no, I’m not referring to Clark Kent.  If you work as a miserable desk jockey stuck in a cubicle on the 43^rd floor of some corporate megastructure, congratulations, you’ve got serious potential to become an ass kicking, day saving, badass mutha. 

Cars don’t adhere to laws of physics.  Yeah, go ahead, hop in your 500 horsepower Corvette to outrun that bad guy.  What you don’t know, is that where they lack in their inability to shoot you, they make up for in their ability to catch up to you in a garbage truck and run you off the road.  It doesn’t matter that you have a 0-60 time in under 4 seconds, or a top speed of over 200mph, that garbage truck has the same center of gravity as you so it can never roll no matter how many corners you whip around trying to ditch it.  Also, police cars are not to be run from.  They are faster than you, trust me.

Hand to hand combat is fun!  Go ahead, get kicked in the head by a guy in boots who has thighs the size of beer kegs, you’ll get back up after, I promise.  Hell, chances are you’ll even end up winning.  One thing action movies give testament to is the durability of the human body.  Now I’m not talking prize fighters here, I’m referring to your average Joe.  I’ve thankfully been in very few fights in my life, but it doesn’t take a lot of thought to realize that it’s not going to take more than a couple serious hits to the head before my ass clocks out.

The “Black Market” is a department at your local Wal Mart and nuclear weapons come from vending machines.  Any good action movie will show you that acquiring illegal firearms is a cinch, and that the ATF will never know you bought them.  On top of that, thanks to the Cold War, we just have nukes lying around for any rogue group of vigilantes to pick up and hold countries hostage with.

Happy Mediums

Here we have a series of pictures that are supposed to be medium drinks from various fast food joints.  The point of this is to try and make myself more uncomfortable eating out all the time, and to hopefully try and learn to cook.  If it does the same for you, then you're welcome, or I'm sorry, whichever applies.

It's kind of difficult to judge scale here but that's a 17 inch monitor they are all in front of.  From top down they are McDonald's, Taco Bell, and Burger King.

Merriam defines the word medium as; something in a middle position.  I'd like you to take note next time you go to a fast food restaurant the different sizes they offer and see just how "middle" the position of the the medium drink is compared to the other sizes.  And I'm not talking about whether it's placed in between the small and large cups on the counter either, I'm talking about volume.

Let's take the two popular fast food chains McDonald's, and Taco Bell, everyone here is familiar with the Golden Arches, and the little Chihuahua correct?  McDonald's, to their credit, actually has some of the more moderate sized beverages around, which is probably in part due to the huge success of the documentary Supersize Me.  They come in at 16, 21, and 31oz sizes, however, can you tell me why there's only a 5oz difference between the small and medium, but a 10oz difference between the medium and large sizes?  Now Taco Bell, has a different approach.  Small for them, starts at 20oz, followed by 30oz mediums, topped off with 40oz larges.  They definitely have a good understanding of the definition of the word medium, never mind you, their small drink comes in at 1oz less than another chains medium.  I would say that Panda Express has to be one of the worst offenders I could find.  With 22, 32, and 44oz small, medium, and large drinks respectively.  Their medium drink, is damn near a silo of cola.  Burger King, also has some hefty drink sizes, and the nutrition facts on their website does not declare volume of the cups either.  Wonder why that is?

Now let us take a look at another meaning of the word medium, as described by Merriam; a condition or environment in which something may function or flourish.  The only thing that is going to be flourishing after 20+oz of soda is a mad sugar high, and these big chains wallets.  I wouldn't exactly say a daily intake of that amount of soda is any environment for your health to flourish.  With any luck, a few more exposés such as this and I'll be well on my way to becoming the next Emeril.  BAM!
